Mt. Olympus Productions (A.K.A
MOP) was originally created to be an outlet for kids in the Santa Clarita Valley looking to preform in a musical production.
MOP is a a company run and produced by teenagers.
It all started when three Saugus High
School students (Andrew Neal, Julie Haumont, and Sara Skiles) became agitated by their school's unwillingness to allow
any musical theatre. Thus, Mount Olympus Productions was created. Soon a forth friend joined the flurry of excitement,
Sam Harries, to help cover all the areas of expertise for making a successful production (singing, dancing, acting,
directing, and tech. work). The students had no idea the difficult journey they were about to embark upon as they rendezvoused
one warm afternoon in a swimming pool discusing possible tactics for approaching a musical.
Two months and a few hundred dollars later,
MOP was in action and planning their biggest step yet, the production. In summer of 2006, MOP will preform their first production
ever, Andrew Lloyd Weber's "The Phantom Of the Opera". The show will cast about thirty actors (all teenagers 18 years of age
or younger) and will be preformed at Hart HighSchool.
To follow the production of "The Phantom
Of The Opera" are several other broadway musicals including,"Seven Brides for Seven Brothers", "Moulin Rouge", and many others.
Needless to say that you can be sure to hear about these teenagers in the future seeing as how all of them plan to make
MOP part of their adult lives. But, for now it is all teenagers, all the time. So, with or without some support from adults
in the valley, they will continue to bring great musical productions to the Santa Clarita Valley.
